Conditions
Conditions in which Anastrozole needs care, as documented in this source.
Cardiovascular Diseases
ModerateIn studies of women with preexisting ischemic heart disease, an increased incidence of ischemic cardiovascular events was observed with the use of anastrozole. Caution should be exercised when prescribing anastrozole to these patients.

Hypercholesterolemia
ModerateDuring a clinical trial, more patients receiving anastrozole were reported to have elevated serum cholesterol compared to patients receiving tamoxifen (9% versus 3.5%, respectively). Caution should be taken when this agent is prescribed to these patients.

Liver Diseases
ModerateAnastrozole is extensively metabolized by the liver. Analysis of the pharmacokinetic disposition of anastrozole in patients with hepatic cirrhosis indicates that dosage adjustments of anastrozole are not necessary in patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Clinical monitoring for toxicity associated with anastrozole therapy is recommended. Therapy with anastrozole should be administered cautiously in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Osteoporosis
ModerateResults from the clinical trial bone substudy at 12 and 24 months demonstrated that patients receiving anastrozole had a mean decrease in both lumbar spine and total hip bone mineral density (BMD) compared to baseline. Caution should exercise when prescribing this agent to patients with a risk of fractures, such as the elderly and patients with osteoporosis. Consider bone mineral density monitoring in patients treated with anastrozole.
